Bordeaux / Year 1979 was repeating partly the 1978 vintage with wet and cool spring, hot summer, cool and dry autumn. The dry whites succeeded well this year while the reds especially Cabernet Sauvignon was struggling reaching the full physiological ripeness. Again Mouton has been a disappointment. The right bank did better with Merlot. The best wine of the vintage is the first Le Pin ever produced. Other excellent wines that ought to be mentioned are La Mission Haut-Brion and Haut-Brion. Haut-Brion has been a bargain at 200 euro. The Sauternes wines have also proved fairly good, the best of them being Yquem.
