The Story

Château Haut-Brion is the oldest and by far the smallest of the "Premiers Grands Crus" vineyards of the Gironde 1855 classification. Château Haut-Brion is one of the few remaining family-owned domains of the Bordeaux region with a history going back to the 16th century. Wine Information

A GOOD YEAR
"Evident" would be the defining word to describe this wine. Usually, Haut-Brion is a wine characterized by a certain restraint, obliging the taster to go forward to meet it. Written Notes

Tasted three times - last time in October 2009. Consistent notes. 43% Merlot + 44% C.Sauvignon + 13% C.Franc, which corresponds precisely to percentage of planted grape varieties in the vineyard! Only 43% of the harvest survived the severe selection for Grand Vin. Deep dark red. More dense and more concentrated than La Mission, otherwise same style. Strikingly well-balanced and classy wine.
  • 94p
Deep ruby. Layered, nuanced, floral and scented, touch of cedar. Very subdued minerals, refined. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, savory, again refreshing and mouthwatering. Superb texture and structure, more seductive than La Mission, refined, lively and very long.
