The Story

Haut-Brion Blanc is as renowned as it is scarce, with only about 8,000 bottles available per vintage for a very demanding market. It is often regarded as the greatest white of Bordeaux, although Haut-Brion Blanc’s sibling, Laville Haut-Brion, sometimes equals and occasionally surpasses it. The white vineyards at Haut-Brion are planted to 63 percent Sémillon and 37 percent Sauvignon Blanc, a weighting that gives this wine its particularly plush...

Wine Information

Despite a winter and a spring marked by complicated climatic conditions – abundant rain and temperatures below seasonal averages – flowering took place with an almost miraculous homogeneity. The great drought of the summer ended with a rainy season in mid-September that was very beneficial for the end of the maturity cycle. In October, no rain came to disrupt our harvest. The freshness of the nights, combined with the warm days, allowed to dev...

Vintage 2016

2016 Bordeaux in Review  “A Paradox”

by Andrew Caillard MW

The 2016 Bordeaux vintage will be remembered as one of the great years of the 21st Century. I have not been so excited about the prospects of such young wines since the remarkable back-to-back 2009 and 2010 vintages. Written Notes

Discreet nose, yet with layered aromatics of ripe herbs, lemon confit, lime, crushed stone, very fine extract and a salivating freshness with an intense and lingering finish, very long and sustained. Perhaps a bit les of its usual power this vintage but still performing on the highest level.

  • 96p

Pale colour. Intense lemon glacé, grapefruit aromas and flavours with vanilla marzipan oak. Supple and sweet with salty flinty, notes, and fresh long acidity. Well balanced wine. Not the fuck-off wine it should be though. Tasted at Ch Haut Brion. 95 points

  • 95p

Bright yellow with green hue. Excellent nose slowly opening up. Ripe peaches, fresh lemon zest, hints of mint and aromatic herbs in the background, passion fruit and hints of pineapple. On the palate fresh and crisp with fine acidity, sweet fruit, peaches and Tropcial fruit, impressing length. 97

  • 97p

Pale lemon yellow. Apples, some candied lemons, peach, vanilla, some spices, detailed nose, minerals, touch smoky. Fresh acidity, fresh, fruity, apples, lemons, spices, some vanilla, detailed, playful and elegant, refreshing, lively, long. 93-95
