The Aristocratic Intensity of Château Haut-Brion 2025

The unveiling of Château Haut-Brion 2025 has captivated the global fine wine community, with critics celebrating this deeply concentrated masterpiece as one of the ultimate highlights of the entire Pessac-Léognan appellation. This legendary estate has crafted a wine that brilliantly navigates the climatic challenges of the vintage, offering a contemporary expression of its unique terroir...

The Story

Among the ultra-elite hierarchy of Bordeaux First Growths, Château Haut-Brion occupies a singular space. While its counterparts—Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, Latour, and Mouton Rothschild—reside in the Médoc north of the city, Haut-Brion stands alone in Pessac-Léognan, just outside Bordeaux’s urban core. It is not merely a founding pillar of fine wine history; it is arguably the birthplace of luxury winemaking as we know it today.

Wine Information

The 2025 Château Haut-Brion is a majestic, highly aromatic First Growth from Pessac-Léognan, harvested during a warm growing season marked by ideal dry conditions in late summer. Composed of a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot-dominant blend with small additions of Cabernet Franc, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (around 70–80% new) and comes in at a balanced 13.8% ABV.

It delivers a deeply complex nose of dark cassis, black cherries, sm...

Written Notes

Haut Brion: 62% Merlot, 26.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11.8% Cabernet Franc. Around 10% more Merlot in the blend compared with the 2023 and 2022 vintages. It offers plenty of aromatic blackcurrants, with notes of leather. There is a great acidity, a strong backbone, and exceptional complexity. It is vibrant and sophisticated, with a long and sensual finish. It's spectacular for the vintage. 98-100p.

  • 100p

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Complex nose with very appealing character. Dark berries, e.g. blackberries, blackcurrants, mulberries complemented by ripe cherries and a whiff of ripe plum. Distinct spiciness, graphite and fine toasting, dark chocolate and a whiff of cocoa powder. On the palate well structured with ripe tannins, refined acidity, very complex taste with graphite, juicy fruit and spiciness again. A great Haut-Brion with tension, excellent length and exceptional elegance although the Merlot plays the dominant role in this wine.
