GENTLE, ROMANTIC FIGURE OF A WOMAN

The French artist Marie Laurencin (1885–1956) was at first inspired by the great Cubists in the circle of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, before finding her own style influenced by the artists’ group, the Nabis. Vintage 1948

Bordeaux 1948: a fine vintage which had the misfortune of being located between two legendary vintages.

Weather Conditions: The weather conditions in Bordeaux during the 1948 growing season were challenging. The year began with a cold winter, followed by a late spring and a rather wet early summer. Written Notes

Brilliant level and appearance. Fully mature and healthy, dark colour. Decanted only 15 minutes before dinner, but already had a quite open and robust bouquet. Surprisingly rich and stylish wine with good complexity. Very full, cedary and fruity wine. Extensive and sweet aftertaste. I enjoyed the wine very much. Ready and will not improve. A satisfying surprise!

The 1948 Mouton Rothschild had that woody and weedy 1948 style, Left Bank that is. ‘Roasted with pure juniper’ came from the crowd along with ‘forest.’ Ice cream flavors went with its cedar box ones, and its elegant style made its earth and green qualities coalesce. ‘Concentrated celery’ and ‘celery root’ were also noted in this good Mouton (91).
