Wine Information

For many the 1964 vintage conjures up images of a truly unique year. Written Notes

High-shoulder, a good, slightly light, mature colour. Somewhat earthy, aromatic nose. Not much body or complexity, but well balanced. This lacks fruit and richness – a light, skinny and one-dimensional wine with an unfilled finish. Was in much better form 15 years ago.

There was great spice to the 1964 Mouton Rothschild. A stick of cinnamon gum and forest floor added complexity, and its palate reminded me of 1976 with its caramel and chocolate. Ed found it softer than ’67, and he was right (91).
