Vintage 1951

Bordeaux: A poor vintage from a small harvest. There he had an attack of flower abortion, a lack of sunlight during the critical months and several difficult-to-treat illnesses. Fortunately, at the beginning of October, there was good weather for the harvests, which helped restore the balance.

Written Notes

This lucky bottle was in prestige condition. Decanted only for 15 minutes. A pale and light colour as expected, but the bouquet was surprisingly intense, spicy and sound. Instead of being a massive and big Cabernet, this was really a weak and soft wine with one or two layers of dry fruit and tannins. Drinkable and not nearly as hard and undrinkable as almost all other Bordeaux wines of this poor vintage. It had even some length left – probably the best 1951 Bordeaux I have had for years.

I can’t remember the last time I had a Bordeaux, or a wine, from 1951, and the 1951 Mouton Rothschild didn’t give me much reason to investigate the vintage further. It was soft and simple, otherwise known as water city lol. If Jesus turned wine into water, it would probably taste like this (83).
