The Story

Since the 17th Century, the first wine of Château Margaux has been recognised as being one of the greatest wines in the entire world. It owes its unique qualities to the genius of its terroir as well as to the passionate work of a succession of generations. Wine Information

Château Margaux 1937 was, in its youth, a very tannic wine that needed a long time to open up. Today the nose is very pleasant, complex and fresh. It is still quite tannic on the palate and has good acidity. A warm year which helped to make very good Sauternes wines but did not result in very good red wines.

Written Notes

Exhibits a deep garnet color, transitioning to a lighter, tawny rim—a hallmark of its age.

The bouquet is quite rich and evocative, with a blend of stewed black fruits like plums and blackberries, layered with complex aromas of leather, cigar box, and dried flowers. There's a subtle undertone of earthiness, akin to forest floor, which adds depth.

Medium to full-bodied, the wine presents an elegant structure with silky, mature tannins. The palate is nuanced with flavors of dried fruits, hints of spice, and a slight savory character, complemented by a still-vibrant acidity that brings freshness to the mature profile.

The finish is surprisingly long and refined, with lingering notes of spice and dried fruit, providing a graceful end to the tasting experience.

The 1937 Chateau Margaux is still a distinguished and complex wine. This wine is beautifully matured, offering a sophisticated, layered tasting experience, ideal for those who appreciate the unique qualities of a well-aged wine.
