Wine Information

1993 Vintage/ The bad weather during the harvest only resulted in a slight lessening of an expected superb quality. Generally speaking, the month that really counts in determining the quality of a wine is August, or as the French say, "August makes the must". Written Notes

The 1993 Chateau Margaux reveals a mature hue, displaying a medium garnet color with a slight tawny rim, indicative of its age.

Althought the vintage is not even average, the bouquet is still complex and evolved, characterized by a mix of dried red fruits such as cranberries and cherries, alongside a mélange of blackcurrant. These mature fruit aromas are beautifully interwoven with nuances of dried flowers, particularly violet and a hint of lavender. Earthy undertones of forest floor and truffle are enriched by secondary aromas of leather and tobacco, with a subtle, integrated oakiness lending a touch of vanilla and spice.

On the palate, this vintage offers a medium-bodied experience with softened tannins and a silky texture. The fruit character has evolved into a more tertiary profile, showcasing flavors of dried fig and prune, complemented by notes of licorice and black tea. The acidity remains well-balanced, providing a freshness that brightens the earthy and savory flavors.

The finish is lingering but quite short, with a refined persistence of earthy and spicy notes, highlighting the maturity and elegance of the wine. There is a final hint of mineral and cedar that adds depth and complexity to the closing moments.

This wine is drinking well now, presenting a wonderful opportunity to experience the nuanced development of Bordeaux wines from a challenging vintage at the very decent price..
