The Story

Since the 17th Century, the first wine of Château Margaux has been recognised as being one of the greatest wines in the entire world. It owes its unique qualities to the genius of its terroir as well as to the passionate work of a succession of generations. Wine Information

This good quality harvest produced a powerful wine, tannic and hard when it was young. Tasted in 2011, the nose was still closed, but the palate was impressive for its density and freshness. It still seemed so young that we almost wanted to wait a few more years...

Vintage 1918

Very fine weather generally throughout the whole year, including the harvest. However, it would appear that the ripeness did not reach optimal levels. Written Notes

Brick red colour with mahogany hue. Very elegant with gingerbread spices in the nose. On the palate good persistency, fine acidity, very good length. Well-preserved.

Medium-intense brick red colour. Intense and refined nose showes great complexity and lovely roasted coffee aromas. Medium-bodied palate with vibrant acidity, refined gravelly tannins and intense fruit sets this wine high in my ranking. The lingering long focused and concentrated finish shows that this wine is not done yet. But I encourage you opening the bottle and sharing it in a good company.  – JL 95p. (Aug 2023)

Tasted on the 2nd November 2018. Chateau bottled. Very old dusty nose, old sherry-like acidity, light, little fruit left. No excitement here.
