The Story

Well-cared for vines, strictly controlled yields and as late as possible harvest produces an aromatic and opulent wine. Deeply coloured, La Tâche develops a palate of extraordinary aromas of dark fruits, truffle and spices.

Rich and concentrated, its bouquet releases infinite tones that melt in the mouth to form a lovely ensemble – always exceptional, even in the difficult vintages. Hence in 1950 and 1951, it was the only wine in the domain...

2006 Harvest

A vigneron's challenge again !

At the time of this writing, the vineyards, relieved of their fruit, have begun to change colour. The soft October sun is caressing the red and gold hills. The villages are quiet again after the hubbub of the harvest. The streets are filled with generous fragrances coming from the wineries where fermentations are proceeding. The birth of this new vintage is a real pleasure to the senses !

2006 VINTAGE in Burgundy

The personality of Burgundy wines makes the difference

A charmer. Such is the epithet most frequently employed when Burgundy's newest vintage is evoked. Nearly two months after the grape harvest, and following a year typified by rather fantastical weather, Burgundy is finally catching its breath. The 2006 vintage, a preoccupying one which never allowed an idle moment, both in the vineyards and in the cellars, exc...

Medium-intense, ruby colour. Complex and rich nose with peculiar herbaceous nuances and ripe red fruits. Toasty and chocolaty aromas with peculiar smoky, grilled meat tones. Complex, vivid palate with energetic and refined palate with warm spices and ripe wild strawberry flavours. Delicate, floral aromas highlights the charming and lingering long finish.

A 2006 DRC La Tache made everyone stand up and take notice. This was a deep wine showing lots of skin, with that cedary goodness on top of fruit that smelled addictively good. There was almost a drug-like euphoria to the La Tache. This was a full and long wine, with a finish that was fine and polished despite lingering on and on. There was forest in the house, or this was a house made out of an entire forest, as its breadth and depth impressed us all. Spicy and sexy, La Tache is always special (96).

The 2006 La Tâche Grand Cru is a vintage that I had not tasted since it was in barrel. But what a gorgeous wine it has turned out. The bouquet is so seductive, a heady mixture of red and blue fruit, pressed violets and citrus fruit that soar from the glass with amazing precision. The palate is medium-bodied with precise tannin, velvety smooth in texture with layers of red fruit laced with black cherries, Earl Grey and even a hint of liquorice. Monitoring the wine over several minutes it seems to gain depth and persistence. Beautiful.

Deep red. Lovely high-pitched aromas and flavors of raspberry, minerals, flowers and spices; this could go into a time capsule. Then juicy, pure and almost magically light on its feet, with terrific verve and spicy lift. With air, a note of smoky underbrush emerged, but in comparison to this sappy wine the 2005 is distinctly more sauvage Finishes with sweet but firm tannins and outstanding purity and persistence.

Domaine de La Romanee-Conti's 2006 La Tache possesses a sense of sheer density and a viscosity – by no means precluding energy – that go beyond the other wines in the Domaine's current collection. Scents of bitter-sweet floral perfume, citrus oils, white pepper, peat, and black fruit distillates pungently, almost aggressively fill the nose. The marrow and beef gelatin aspect of this Pinot is salient, but is allied on a palpably tannic palate with similarly impressive concentrated cooked black fruits, dark mushroom stock, forest floor, smoky Lapsang tea, and licorice. For grip and power, too, this surpasses its stable mates. But a glance back at the Romanee-St.-Vivant suggests that you can't have it all, and that this La Tache cannot approach that wine's finesse or quite equal its mystery. Still, I suspect this will be worth following for at least two decades

2006 LA TÂCHE GRAND CRU This is almost embarrassingly open and intense nose that fills the room with layers of gorgeous dark berry fruit, strawberries, dark raspberries, red currant, blackberries, spices, flowers, roses, violets, mint, herbs, truffle and earthy notes. Spectacular nose that doesn’t fade for hours! Very focused but full palate that gives you everything from the nose in a neat package of great intensity. Wild berry fruit that shines through the backdrop of exotic spices, soy sauce, mushrooms, truffle, floral note and minerality. Lush, yes but superbly balanced and flat out delicious. Can’t wait to try this in 15 years! Drink 2018-2035 96p.
