The Story

Richebourg is a king of a wine: the colonnade of the Louvre, the Château of Versailles. You are impressed by its finesse, its length and its delicate sensations, endlessly changing. The fact that no element dominates the others enables you to appreciate all of its aromas, on the nose and on the palate. In any given vintage, Richebourg is always one of the last wines to be drunk. Not because it is too aggressive when young; simply because it ne...

Bourgogne 2022: A generous and promising vintage

The 2022 vintage encapsulates what Bourgogne does best: Generosity and promise! After three years of quality without quantity, with yields impacted by weather events, it is certainly welcome, taking some of the pressure off sales and allowing stocks to be built back up. Despite some small disparities depending on the varietal, the vines stood up pretty well to some rather extreme weather and we...

Written Notes

The 2022 Burgundy vintage was notable for its generous yields and overall quality, especially after the frost-impacted 2021. At DRC, the 2022 wines reflect both abundance and excellence, combining vivid fruit expression with balance and energy across the range, and Richebourg is among the standout cuvées in this collection. Critics describe 2022 as a classic-like year at DRC where favourable harvest conditions produced wines with impressive substance and depth.

Appearance: Deep ruby-crimson with vibrant saturation and clarity, typical of a serious Grand Cru Pinot Noir from a strong vintage.

Nose: Intensely perfumed and layered. Aromas of ripe mulberry, plum and dark cherry lead, interwoven with floral violet, exotic spice, orange zest and subtle herbaceous notes. There are hints of incense, crushed rock minerality and delicate oak spice, adding both breadth and nuance.

Palate: Dry, full-bodied and beautifully structured. Concentrated dark fruit—black raspberry, plum and blackberry—unfolds with firm yet polished tannins and lively acidity. A core of mineral tension and savory complexity (licorice, earth and subtle spice) gives notable depth and lift without heaviness. The texture is layered and multidimensional, combining the power and finesse expected of Richebourg.

Finish: Long, resonant and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, floral spice and a refined mineral echo that carries well beyond the initial impression.

Overall: A magnificent expression of Richebourg from a generous, well-balanced year—combining intensity, structural authority and aromatic complexity. The 2022 shows both depth and purity of fruit and is unquestionably built for long-term evolution, yet already compelling with air.

Serving: 16–18 °C; decant 2–3 hours in youth to broaden aromatics.

Pairing: Grilled ribeye, roasted lamb with herbs, venison loin with rich sauce, or aged cheeses.

Drinking window (estimate): 2032–2060+ — serious ageing potential typical of top Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru.
