The Story

Well-cared for vines, strictly controlled yields and as late as possible harvest produces an aromatic and opulent wine. Deeply coloured, La Tâche develops a palate of extraordinary aromas of dark fruits, truffle and spices.

Rich and concentrated, its bouquet releases infinite tones that melt in the mouth to form a lovely ensemble – always exceptional, even in the difficult vintages. Hence in 1950 and 1951, it was the only wine in the domain...

Written Notes

Man cannot live on Richebourg alone. We returned to 1952, but this time it was a 1952 DRC La Tache, and it was also served out of magnum.  The 1952 shined with its sappy and concentrated fruit. It had a similar style to the Richebourg with more elegance and reserve. There were animal, bouillon, and black tea flavors, all in an elegant way, and a long, stylish and sensual finish. This was another outstanding DRC from the fifties (96M).

The 1952 vintage for DRC La Tâche sits in the era when Burgundian vineyards were still producing wines with remarkable balance and depth despite variable climate conditions across the Côte de Nuits. Even in years that were not uniformly spectacular, La Tâche exhibited its signature intensity and structure due to the exceptional terroir and meticulous vineyard work. As a mature bottle today, 1952 is regarded as rich, concentrated and classically developed, showing how well this Grand Cru gains complexity with long aging.

Appearance: Mature garnet with bricking at the rim but still a deep, richly coloured centre, typical of long-aged Pinot Noir from top Burgundy.

Nose: Profound and evocative, blending evolved dark fruit reduction (dried plum, blackberry and black cherry) with tertiary notes of truffle, forest floor, leather and savory spices. There are also aromas of violet and dried rose petal with hints of Asian spice that deepen with air, giving a truly layered bouquet.

Palate: Dry, medium-to-full bodied, with mature yet still vivid flavours of dark cherries, raspberry reduction and plum. Integrated acidity and gently resolved tannins provide structure, while savory elements (earth, cedar, spice) and a subtle mineral thread lend complexity. The mid-palate is rich and harmonious, showing texture that speaks to age and vineyard weight without heaviness.

Finish: Long, elegant and balanced, with lingering tertiary notes of spice, earth, dried fruit and a gentle mineral lift that carries through the close, showcasing both fruit persistence and nuanced evolution.

Overall: A magnificent mature expression of La Tâche—rich yet refined, deeply aromatic and textured with tertiary complexity. This is a wine that illustrates how DRC’s La Tâche can evolve over decades while retaining structural harmony and layered nuance.

Serving & Pairing: Serve at 16–18 °C with gentle decanting (30–60 min) to allow the mature aromatics to open. Pair with braised lamb, roasted game, truffle-accented dishes or aged hard cheeses.

Drinking Window: Now–2035+ (peak mature complexity).
