The Story

The wine-growing village of Flagey-Échezeaux lies in the " Plain ", so-called, between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits. Facing east, the Grands-Échezeaux vines are a prolongation of Musigny following the North-South axis of the Côte, but more regular and less broken in their layout. At the bottom end, the " Climat " known as La Combe d'Orveau separates them from Musigny. The Échezeaux vineyards, for their part, divide the Clos d...

Wine Information

2005 Harvest

The making of a vintage is like a voyage, an adventure, whose final destination is unknown. Nature has its own, often capricious, rule. Our only skill is to learn, with humility, to adapt to it.

The fruit that we saw passing by on the sorting table during these eight days of harvest was the most beautiful we have seen since 1999. Who would have predicted this, after an excessively hot Spring and a cold and cloudy August, eve...

Vintage 2005

2005 VINTAGE in Burgundy / Hopes made way for certainty.

2005 promises to produce outstanding whites, with elegance and opulence beyond the norm, and superb, seductive and well-structured red wines.

Written Notes

“The soaring nose of spicy cassis, black cherry and vi- olets this displayed from cask has now become very re- served and brooding, merging into rich, full and utterly delicious flavors that possess a beguiling texture and unusually fine tannins compared to what I typically see with the Ech. This is a big wine by any measure with ex- cellent mid-palate density and superb length. Really good stuff and as the “value” play in the DRC line-up, one to strongly consider because it surpasses its normal quality level by more than a fair margin in 2005.” (94pts BH)

Ruby, pink brick rim. Superb nose, strawberries, spices, nose is gorgeous and pure. Slightly riper style, but not as ripe as expected. Fresh acidity, lively and superbly balanced, tannins feels few and ripe, long, young and delicious.
