The Story

Well-cared for vines, strictly controlled yields and as late as possible harvest produces an aromatic and opulent wine. Deeply coloured, La Tâche develops a palate of extraordinary aromas of dark fruits, truffle and spices.

Rich and concentrated, its bouquet releases infinite tones that melt in the mouth to form a lovely ensemble – always exceptional, even in the difficult vintages. Hence in 1950 and 1951, it was the only wine in the domain...

Vintage 2019

“2019 is ‘the perfect storm’ of a vintage,” said Laurent Drouhin of top negociant house Drouhin, which owns vineyards in many parts of Burgundy. “We keep smiling because some wines will be great.” The mix included the hottest temperatures since the time of the Black Death 700 years ago (!), frost in April, rain in June, and no rain for nearly four months.

Drouhin’s harvest started on time on Sept. 13, and Laurent’s winemaking brother Freder...

Written Notes

The 2019 La Tâche Grand Cru was picked over three days, September 16–18, at around 23hl/ha. It was the only cuvée to be marked by minor reduction on the nose. Nevertheless, the intense blackberry, wild strawberry, crushed stone and incense aromas unfold with time. A second barrel was tasted that offered very discreet menthol aromas and redder fruit. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannins, perfectly judged acidity and touches of blood orange infusing shimmering red fruit toward the extremely persistent finish. It will be a profound La Tâche, but I guess you kind of know that already. 97-99p

Good looking normal size bottle and has by the neck level. Colour is purple, full, youthful  and deep . On the nose it is intense, wide, generous and seductive. The taste is fresh, focused, rich, warming, with sweet tannins, silky tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with concentrated, well-integrated, balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has herbs, dried-fruit, buttery, violet, tropical fruits, perfumed, toasty and chocolate flavours. The finish is long, extensive and vibrant. This wine is sophisticated, intelligent and excellent. I paid around 3k-5k€ a bottle. Too expensive for quality. I do recommend.
