The Story

Well-cared for vines, strictly controlled yields and as late as possible harvest produces an aromatic and opulent wine. Deeply coloured, La Tâche develops a palate of extraordinary aromas of dark fruits, truffle and spices.

Rich and concentrated, its bouquet releases infinite tones that melt in the mouth to form a lovely ensemble – always exceptional, even in the difficult vintages. Hence in 1950 and 1951, it was the only wine in the domain...

The 2022 vintage at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

What words could possibly do justice to everything one would like to recount and share after having had the good fortune to witness the birth of a vintage as exceptional as 2022?

Some might say we would need a Virgil to write an ode to 2022… In truth, it was the vine itself that, this year, composed an ode to its own glory — the vine, that extraordinary plant, without equal in the vegeta...

Bourgogne 2022: A generous and promising vintage

The 2022 vintage encapsulates what Bourgogne does best: Generosity and promise! After three years of quality without quantity, with yields impacted by weather events, it is certainly welcome, taking some of the pressure off sales and allowing stocks to be built back up. Despite some small disparities depending on the varietal, the vines stood up pretty well to some rather extreme weather and ...

Written Notes

The 2022 Burgundy vintage was marked by generosity and a return to larger quantities after several low-yield years, producing wines with both richness and balance across the Côte de Nuits. At Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the 2022 wines have been praised for combining the lush fruit and structure of warmer years with balanced acidity and poise, resulting in wines already showing depth and clarity despite their youth. This vintage followed the frost-impacted 2021, making the abundant 2022 particularly welcome, and early reports describe purity of fruit, freshness and harmonious structure across the range.

Appearance: Deep ruby-purple with youthful brightness and a concentrated, luminous core—classic for La Tâche and indicative of its intensity at this early stage.

Nose: Perfumed and multi-layered, opening with sweet red and dark berries, plum and raspberry, interwoven with floral notes of rose petals and exotic spice. Subtle hints of orange zest, incense and wintergreen add complexity and intrigue, underscoring both richness and aromatic precision.

Palate: Dry, medium-to-full bodied with a beautifully concentrated core of fruit. Lively acidity and finely poised, powdery tannins frame layered flavors of blackberry, wild strawberry, plum and citrus zest. There’s a compelling interplay between fruit density and savory elements—spice, subtle earth and a refined mineral seam—that gives structure and tension without weight.

Finish: Long, harmonious and elegant, with lingering red fruit, spice, floral lift and a gentle oak-inflected echo. Balance and persistence suggest this wine will reward extended cellaring.

Overall: A magnificent expression of La Tâche from a generous, well-balanced vintage—rich yet refined, expressive yet precise. The 2022 shows both the power and purity that define this Grand Cru and a graceful structure signaling serious long-term potential.

Serving: 14–16 °C; decant 1–2 hours in youth to broaden aromatics.

Pairing: Roast duck with berry jus, herb-crusted lamb, game birds, truffle dishes, or aged Comté.

Drinking window (estimate): 2035–2060+
