Fully mature and very airy, indeed even ethereal notes of spice, earth and the last vestiges of black pinot fruit combine with elegant, pure and nicely defined medium full flavors that display a touch of gas on the very long finish. This is very stylish and classy juice that is drinking perfectly now though it remains relatively youthful and while it has reached its apogee, it should be capable of holding well for sometime yet..." Vintage 1979

Burgundy: Spring started rather cold, but in May, warmer weather arrived to get flowering off to a good start. Normal, warm summer conditions followed, with the exception of a severe local storm in June which minimized crop sizes in Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny. The harvest began at the end of September. The fine, elegant wines were just a little sweeter than the '78s; The Côte de Beaune did particularly well.

Written Notes

The 1979 DRC Romanee Conti was similar to the 1980 but with less menthol and cola.  It had a rocky edge to it, but it was round and sweet, also with a nice oily component.  This was a polished beauty, with a honeyed palate that was long and elegant with a flash of grip.  This was a tasty wine that mellowed more in the glass (95).

What a pretty wine with a cool, earth and strawberry character with a floral and hibiscus undertone. The color was excellent with a ruby center and a garnet edge. It’s very full and rich for this medium vintage with sweet berries, spices and sandalwood. Fine tannins with a brightness and clarity. So beautiful now.
