It is probably one of the most traditional wineries in France. Wines are produced in small quantities while the demand is huge. The domaine has 25 hectares of vineyards, all Grand Crus, including the jewel in the crown, the 1.8 hectare monop...

Vintage 1995

A small crop of high quality for long ageing. As in 1985, the acidity in the white wines is hidden behind the ripe fruit.

An early frost and cool June weather severely reduced the size of the 1995 crop. July and August were fine, dry and warm, but cooler conditions arrived in September, bringing showers and overcast skies. Fortunately the rains were more spread out and did not do as much damage as in 1994. The harvest took place in cooler ...

Written Notes

The 1995 had strawberry, cranberry and brighter red fruits.  ‘Extraordinary, sexy wine’ came from the crowd.  There was a gingerbread goodness to this elegant and well-bred wine.  It had a sexy, delicacy type style.  It was ‘peppery’ per the King and while outstanding, it was the least of this flight. Faultless bottle with excellent colour. Surprisingly light and less impressive nose than La Täche. On the palate this is already an striking wine. Superb grip and backbone. Very intense fruitiness and the wine is well-balanced, although the oak is relatively present. Complex, fragrant, persistent with silky, smooth ending. The wine will still improve a lot, but is very enjoyable today.

Inside Information

Parker 95 points/ Whereas most estates had much lower yields than usual because of the damage done during the flowering by a May cold spell, the DRC produced as much Romanee-Conti as it usually does according to Noblet. So much the better, because it is a spectacular wine: Possessing a dark ruby color and a tight but sweet and velvety nose made up of mocha, toast, perfume and dark berries, this wine bowled me over with its incredible depth of chewy, spiced chocolate covered cherries, violets, unctuous texture, and incredibly persistent length. Admirably structured, it is built to last. I recommend holding it for 10 years and drinking it over the following 10-15 years.

This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided.

Drc wines are not subjected to any filtration or fining and undergo only one racking.
