The Story

The Montrachet family consists of grand five Grands Crus grown in the two villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. These two share the Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet appellations. Chevalier and Bienvenues belong to Puligny, Criots belongs to Chassagne. These Grands Crus are the most southerly of the Côte-d'Or, and lie between Meursault in the north and Santenay in the south. Their origins go back to the Middle Ages - the work...

The 2022 vintage at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

What words could possibly do justice to everything one would like to recount and share after having had the good fortune to witness the birth of a vintage as exceptional as 2022?

Some might say we would need a Virgil to write an ode to 2022… In truth, it was the vine itself that, this year, composed an ode to its own glory — the vine, that extraordinary plant, without equal in the vegeta...

Bourgogne 2022: A generous and promising vintage

The 2022 vintage encapsulates what Bourgogne does best: Generosity and promise! After three years of quality without quantity, with yields impacted by weather events, it is certainly welcome, taking some of the pressure off sales and allowing stocks to be built back up. Despite some small disparities depending on the varietal, the vines stood up pretty well to some rather extreme weather and ...

Written Notes

The 2022 Burgundy vintage delivered an unusually abundant and high-quality harvest following the very low yields of 2021. Across the Côte d’Or, producers achieved excellent ripeness, balance and energy in their wines, and the DRC lineup has been praised for depth, freshness and harmony from this year. The 2022 wines are characterised by ripe fruit expression without heaviness, impressive balance between richness and acidity, and structural clarity that promises long-term development. This return to quantity and quality has been described by DRC co-directors as joyous and restorative after the frost-impacted 2021.

Appearance: Pale golden straw with bright highlights and excellent clarity, reflecting the wine’s youth and concentration.

Nose: Intensely aromatic and refined. Pronounced scents of quince, ripe pear, fresh apricot and citrus blossom lead, layered with floral notes (white flowers) and a subtle touch of wood spice. There’s a striking mineral undercurrent—wet stone and saline tension—that supports the fruit without overshadowing it.

Palate: Dry, medium-to-full bodied and impressively structured. The palate delivers concentrated orchard and stone fruit flavors—pear, quince and golden apple—lifted by vibrant acidity and framed by seamless oak. Minerality and saline energy provide tension and precision, while integrated spice and gentle lees complexity add depth to the mid-palate.

Finish: Long, poised and powerful, with lingering citrus, orchard fruit and a cool mineral lift that carries the wine beautifully through the finish.

Overall: A monumental white Burgundy that combines richness, finesse and structural grace. The 2022 Montrachet shows both immediate aromatic appeal and serious pedigree for extended aging.

Serving: 10–12 °C; decanting 30–60 min recommended in youth to allow aromatics to broaden.

Pairing: Lobster with brown butter, sea bass, scallops with citrus foam, roasted halibut, creamy chicken with herbs, or aged Comté.

Drinking window (estimate): 2035–2070+
