The Story

Every Grand Vintage is unique and original, the cellar master’s personal, free interpretation in service of the singular qualities of that year’s grapes. Grand Vintage Rosé is the perfect embodiment of the Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage spirit, a sprit founded on three essential values:

Each bottle of Möet & Chandon Grand Vintage Rosé Brut is unique and original. This champagne has been crafted from the most rigorously selected grapes of one single harvest. The coupage of Grand Vintage Rosé champagne is created from the blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. The second fermentation process and ageing of this champagne was realized in the dark underground cellers of Moët et Chandon over a time-period of 48 months in this champagne´s bottle. During the degüelle (disgorgement) process, there was eight grams of sugar added per liter.

Vintage 2009

This warm year started with a cold winter and mild spring temperatures. Early summer was variable but August and September provided ample sunshine and warmth contributing to fine grape health. Pinot Noir especially excelled. Grape harvest, of generally high sugar content yet soft acidity, started on September 8th. 2009 is a year of generous wines that showed well early. An apt example of a vintage of the recent era, in which retaining freshness poses more problems than attaining ripeness. Good grape health contributed to the overall quality, and despite the richness of the wines, heaviness did not end up being an issue. There is quite some heterogenity amongst the year's produce but the best seem truly age-worthy. The vintage's finest include Louis Roederer Cristal and Cristal Rosé, Dom Pérignon and Philipponnat Clos des Goisses.

Written Notes

Beautifully balanced 09 with a fine polished pinotton on the nose, but with a stringent mineral-flavored low-dose flavor. Undoubtedly a beautiful and modern complex wine with great storage potential. More impressive than the white brother at the launch.

A deep rose-pink, with hints of topaz and coral. Mouth-watering aromas of ripe summer fruits are followed by an almost floral finish, and a touch of vanilla and pink peppercorn. This rosé champagne is reminiscent of sweet marshmallow, cotton candy and caramel apples, balanced by nutmeg, dried fig and black cherry. The finish is elegant and smooth.

A difficult start to the year proved concerning, but the persistent rain and cold temperatures reversed in July, and a sunny and hot summer led to grapes with near-perfect acidity. A blend of pinot noir (59%), of which 19% is still red wine, chardonnay (30%) and meunier (11%), this champagne is expressive and fruity. Seven years of cellaring creates balance and complexity.

There is an attractive grilled note to the vanilla laden ripe apricot nose with wine gums, lingonberries, roses and menthol. Super fruity and rather open upon launch. Rich, candy-toned palate of lush fruit and succulence. There is a gentle bite of tannin towards the back palate. Eager to impress but has the structure to age too.
