A luminous gold.Wonderfully complex, with scents of white flowers, citrus and stone fruit enhanced by the freshness of aniseed and crushed mint. Finally, spicy, woody and roasted notes emerge.Perfectly balanced with the nose, the palate is streamlined and pure, with an underlying warmth. Clear, pronounced fruit and a well-integrated acidity, lead to an aromatic and smoky finish. By Vincent Chaperon, Cellar masters, Dom Pérignon

The Story

Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage champagnes, unlike most champagnes, are made from the grapes of a single exceptional year. Each Grand Vintage is unique. Each possesses the distinctive, imitable qualities of that year’s outstanding grapes, qualities which have been elevated to their fullest expression through the savoir-faire, experience and expertise of Moët & Chandon and the House’s chef de cave.
Since 1842, the House has released 69 vintage ch...

Wine Information

Dom Pérignon vintages set their own release dates, and the 2008 required more patience than Vintage 2009, which reached its first plénitude earlier – an unprecedented event in the maison’s history.

With its streamlined minimalism and expressive warmth, this vintage reveals pronounced fruit flavours and a well-integrated acidity that leads to an aromatic and smoky finish.

The summer of 2008 was characterised by grey days and a yearning fo...

Vintage 2008

2008 -The Champagne vintage set to make history!

A first taste of leading winemakers’ 2008 champagnes reveals a miraculous vintage, bubbling with potential, which – whisper it – might just prove the greatest in living memory.

2008 was not, by any standards, a vintage year for the financial world. And for the greater part of it, 2008 was a pretty poor year for Champagne too: spring was freezing, summer gloomy and overcast. But then, aroun...

Inside Information

Yesterday, Dom Perignon 2008 was released in the UK between £1,200-£1,240 per 12×75 for those that secured an allocation.

The wine has already seen a flurry of trade on Liv-ex. It last traded for £1,402 per 12×75, around a 16% increase on yesterday’s release price.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) awarded the wine 98+ points. In his tasting note, he described it as “fabulous” and added that “the 2008 is going to need a number of years before it is at its best”.

Jancis Robinson was also full of praise. She said that there was “masses of energy here, as well as the usual flirtatiousness” and scored the wine 18.5 points.

Prices for Dom Perignon are not closely correlated to critic scores. Instead, vintages have appreciated in price with the passing of time, as the chart below shows. Based on today’s release price, Dom Perignon 2008 is coming to the market slightly above the price implied by our ‘fair value’ methodology. Buyers looking for value may wish to consider the 2003, 2004, and 2005 vintages.
