The 1988 DP rosé is now fully into its apogee of maturity, and is drinking brilliantly. Time and again when I drink this rosé I am struck by how much this wine resembles top-notch red Burgundy in its complexity, focus and expression of terroir, enlivened by bubbles. The nose on the ’88 is outstanding, as it offers up a winey blend of wild strawberries, red cherries, a bit of bread dough, orange rind, a lovely base of soil and ...

The Story

Dom Pérignon Rosé is a tribute to Pinot Noir. To work with Pinot Noir continually requires excellence and humility. In that regard, Dom Pérignon Rosé is a paradox to the point of contradiction as it is the perfect balance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Although it took over ten years to reach the light of day, the color of Dom Pérignon Rosé dares to express all the tension between youth and maturity, between exhibition and restraint.

CHAMPAGNE: From this year, the most classic and refined champagnes were producedChampagnes are long-lived and mature slowly to their peak.

Winter and spring were fairly mild. Inflorescences began in good weather in June. Already during the next month, the cloud masses swarmed to the Champagne province. Written Notes

Dom Pérignon’s magnificent rosé from one of the greatest vintages of all time, 1988. Such power, such concentration. There are florals, red berries, and freshness, even after all this time. Richness, depth, and persistence. A truly great rosé. 98.

The night was all about 1959, except the magnum of 1988 Dom Perignon Rose. Its nose spoke of good herbs, showing more fraise than strawberry. Lots of citrus and orange peel rounded out this aromatic bubbly, which had lots of grass and hay. Good flesh, nice richness and good minerality summed up our aperitif (94M).

Oh my goodness! A fantastic rosé wine with the same delightful Aÿ aroma as the '85. Moët's bready, mushroomy, yeasty note is certainly recognizable and hogs a big part of the picture. There is also a terroir-propelled elegance and a La Tâche-like silkiness on the tongue that only the truly great wines can mobilize.
