I have experienced a fair amount of bottle variation with the '93 but both this bottle and a second bottle that I had in early May were outstanding). ("severe, closed and understated but I am convinced it will be a great La Tâche" - AdV). This too evidences a slight floral quality, and a fascinating mix of earth, leather, tea and spice notes plus an interesting green bark component. The slightly austere, tannic, wonderfully ri...

The Story

Well-cared for vines, strictly controlled yields and as late as possible harvest produces an aromatic and opulent wine. Deeply coloured, La Tâche develops a palate of extraordinary aromas of dark fruits, truffle and spices.

Rich and concentrated, its bouquet releases infinite tones that melt in the mouth to form a lovely ensemble – always exceptional, even in the difficult vintages. Hence in 1950 and 1951, it was the only wine in the domain...

Vintage 1993

In Burgundy 1993, an early flowering in the month of June, was followed by a wet early July before a hot dry August. The reds of 1993 are outstanding. A vintage that produced wines built for ageing.

Once again, expectations were high in Burgundy...

Written Notes

We started the official program with 1993, and the first wine had a tight, austere nose which was very wound up.  There were lots of herbal and cedar aromas, along with this Fernet Branca liqueur like edge.  It was heavy and long, and I was convinced it was RC…and I was wrong.  This 1993 DRC La Tache was deeper, darker, richer and longer than the RC that followed.  It was a great bottle (96+).

Ruby, garnet rim. Maturing nicely, almost citrus minerality, red berries, red currant's. Fresh acidity, ripe, soon at peak it seems, confusing texture, feels lean, and still almost chewy, focused, narrow, long.
