Parker 97p / The 2009 Richebourg is a dramatic wine. In 2009 there is so much fruit that the tannins are barely perceptible. With time in the glass dark notes of tar, smoke, licorice and violets develop, adding tons of complexity to the fruit. This is a huge, vertical wine that captures the essence of Richebourg in its towering fruit and structure. Layers of fruit saturate every corner of the palate as the wine builds to a deeply satisfying cr...

The Story

Richebourg is a king of a wine: the colonnade of the Louvre, the Château of Versailles. You are impressed by its finesse, its length and its delicate sensations, endlessly changing. The fact that no element dominates the others enables you to appreciate all of its aromas, on the nose and on the palate. In any given vintage, Richebourg is always one of the last wines to be drunk. Not because it is too aggressive when young; simply because it ne...

Wine Information

2009 Harvest /In exceptionally sunny years, it often happens that the sun accompanies the grapes, which it took so much care to ripen, from the end of vattings to the birth of the wine. This is what happened this year - a year ending with a « 9 » which once more associates this figure with the star of life.
The Indian summer set in at the end of the harvest and the glorious vineyards, relieved of their fruit, are changing colours every day, b...

Vintage 2009

A warm spring with some hail in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. After an even flowering and a warm June, the summer arrived with variable July weather. Fortunately August was fine with a period of hot weather in the second week. September started with some rain, then became fine and warm again. A harvest of healthy, ripe grapes followed. The 2009s have all the structure packed in with rich, luscious fruit. Comparable to the 2005s. Grea...

Written Notes

Very dark indeed. Very rich and sumptuous nose. The epitome of richness. In 2009 this seems more obviously rich than the Romanée-St-Vivant. Certainly on the nose. Then it lifts itself out of its wallow in ripe fruit to dance on the palate. The huge intensity of ripe fruit just fails to hide the massive charge of tannins here. Very refreshing on the finish. Not a heavyweight but very entrancing. More obvious sweetness here than on the Romanée-St-Vivant.

Good bright red-ruby. Muskier and oakier on the nose today than the RSV, with darker fruit aromas complicated by smoky minerality and a whiff of cassis bud reduction. Sharply delineated but tightly wound and dominated by its structure. Conveys a rigorous impression of calcaire minerality but this will need a good decade of aging to express itself. Finishes very long and subtle, with superb spine and lingering perfume.

Fine colour. Rich, closed, powerful and concentrated on the nose. Lots of wine here. Full bodied. Very good tannins. Profound and multi-dimensional. Excellent fruit. Splendid grip. This is really most impressive.

Btl 08674. Bright ruby. Touch of coffee and herbs over ripe and sweet strawberry notes. Vanilla and a whiff of spices, scented. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant texture, more fruit driven than the 07 R, feels compact even if hardly compact beside a Zinfandel. Very long.
