The Story

The uniqueness of Dom Pérignon vintages lies in the way they evolve - not steadily in a linear way but through successive windows of expression. These privileged points in time are called “Plénitudes” - captured moments when the wine sings higher and stronger.

P2 is the Second Plénitude of Dom Pérignon Vintage, the result of 16 years of elaboration. The opposing and complementary elements of the assemblage resound for an increasingly sharp ...

Vintage 2008

2008 -The Champagne vintage set to make history!

A first taste of leading winemakers’ 2008 champagnes reveals a miraculous vintage, bubbling with potential, which – whisper it – might just prove the greatest in living memory.

2008 was not, by any standards, a vintage year for the financial world. And for the greater part of it, 2008 was a pretty poor year for Champagne too: spring was freezing, summer gloomy and overcast. But then, aroun...

Written Notes

The Dom Pérignon P2 2008 is the second life of a vintage defined by "miraculous" late-summer sunshine and legendary acidity. In the glass, it remains remarkably pale and bright, possessing a vigorous, pinpoint bead. The nose is a masterclass in tension, leading with a sharp flinty reduction and sea spray, which gradually yields to white grapefruit, kaffir lime, and an evolving autolytic richness of warm brioche and smoked almonds.

The palate is high-definition and vertical. The 2008 vintage is famous for its "racy" backbone, and the P2 treatment has polished those edges into a seamless, silken intensity. It tastes of crushed rock, green mango, and white pepper, driven by a persistent, vibrating acidity that cuts through the expanded texture provided by extended lees aging. The finish is crystalline and saline, leaving a lingering impression of pure mineral energy and citrus pith.

This shows a pale gold with a pin-sharp, hyper-fine effervescence. The nose is extraordinarily complex, balancing the bright citrus zest and white flowers of its youth with deep, savory P2 autolysis—toasted brioche, iodine, gunsmoke, and a hint of dark peat.

On the palate, the wine is an explosion of precision and tension. The famously high acidity of the 2008 vintage is still the driving force, but it has been beautifully buffered by the extra years on the lees, resulting in a creamy, enveloping texture. Flavors of candied lemon, green apple, and briny oyster shell slice across the mid-palate, leading into a phenomenal, saline-driven finish that vibrates with electric energy.
