The Story

At the end of the 17th Century, Dom Pierre Pérignon stated his ambition to create ‘the best wine in the world’.  On 29 September 1694, Dom Pierre Pérignon wrote that his mission was to create “the best wine in the world.” He dedicated himself to improving viticulture techniques, perfecting the art blending grapes from different crus, and introduced the gentle and fractional pressing to obtain white wine from black grapes.Ever since, the House...

Wine Information

Dom Pérignon 1929 is a legendary, pre-war masterpiece. It serves as the final release from the foundational 1920s trilogy of the house (following 1921 and 1928). The 1929 growing season in Champagne was favored by a very fine, hot summer. This weather accelerated grape sugar levels and yielded the largest, most abundant harvest in the region since 1904. It produced wines defined by immense fruit volume and structural harmony.

Written Notes

Far from effervescent nowadays, but still with a streak of carbon dioxide and golden splashes in the medium-deep colour. A sophisticated aroma with a relaxedly luxurious profile. A creamy mellowness influenced by toffee in both the aroma and the flavour. A trifle slender and mild perhaps, but very long and slimmed-down.

Wonderful bottle with fine level. Decanted only five minutes. Good, bright, slightly gold colour. Very fresh and open nose with lovely fruit and a gentle, black truffle and coffee aromas. Awfully lively and energic, it danced in the mouth. The palate has a fine, continuing, creamy mousse and plenty of ripe, rich black fruit. In all, this is an intense, powerful wine with plenty of character. Very long indeed, and fine.
