The Story

At the end of the 17th Century, Dom Pierre Pérignon stated his ambition to create ‘the best wine in the world’.  On 29 September 1694, Dom Pierre Pérignon wrote that his mission was to create “the best wine in the world.” He dedicated himself to improving viticulture techniques, perfecting the art blending grapes from different crus, and introduced the gentle and fractional pressing to obtain white wine from black grapes.Ever since, the House...

Wine Information

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2018 marks a historic and highly anticipated milestone for the world's most famous prestige Champagne. Born from an exceptionally generous, warm harvest that produced grapes with optimal sanitary condition and perfect ripeness, the 2018 release is composed of 54% Chardonnay and 46% Pinot Noir with a dosage of approximately 4.5 to 6 g/L. Notably, this vintage represents the first Dom Pérignon crafted entirely under the dire...

Vintage 2018

CHAMPAGNE: With record rainfall in winter, many hours of sunshine in spring and summer and the earliest harvest on record, the 2018 harvest in Champagne was truly unique. Its prematurity, abundant volume, ripeness and wholesomeness have left many growers singing its praises to the harvest. After a wet winter, budburst took place in April, from which time growth was accelerated. The exceptional conditions led to vigorous vegetative growth and a...

Written Notes

An immensely refined, polished, and beautifully balanced release that captures the generosity of the warm 2018 vintage while retaining Dom Pérignon's hallmark precision and tension. The nose opens with an inviting bouquet of white peach, candied citrus, Meyer lemon, and green apple, gradually revealing rich autolytic layers of warm brioche, toasted almond, subtle gunflint smoke, and white jasmine.

On the palate, the wine is texturally seamless and expansive. The entry is vibrant yet creamy, with an extraordinarily fine, silky mousse that glides across the palate. Fresh orchard fruits and lemon oil are framed by a brilliant, underlying chalky minerality and bright, precise acidity. Shows remarkable core depth and tension without ever feeling heavy. The finish is impressively long, crisp, and pure, concluding with a mouthwatering saline edge, subtle dried herbs, and a touch of smoky mineral toast. Beautifully expressive today, with potential to age gracefully over the next four decades.

The year unfolded under climatically ideal conditions, free from extremes, yielding a generous and balanced harvest. Chardonnay (54%) is anchored by fruit from Chouilly, while Verzenay and Aÿ provided the core of the Pinot Noir. This marks the inaugural vintage under Vincent Chaperon as Chef de Cave. The wine opens with striking aromatic purity and lush fruit tones of ripe peach, Madagascar vanilla, and lemon meringue pie. The nose remains somewhat reticent, hinting at further complexity to come. On the palate, it displays seamless harmony, textured yet precise, rich yet buoyed by a fine mineral tension. A subtle touch of phenolic grip firms the finish. Still holding much in reserve, this is a Dom Pérignon promising exceptional longevity
